imageAVI Health Insurance is provided by AWA. This coverage provides reimbursement for many medical services for Work/Travel Students. Because of Health Insurance restrictions, AWA is not able to accept students with pre-existing medical conditions. Be aware that if you fail to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions in order to participate, treatment that you need for these conditions while you are in the US will not be covered and may be VERY expensive.

If you experience a life threatening emergency, you should go to the nearest Hospital’s Emergency Room for treatment. You should only go to an Emergency Room in case of EMERGENCY as their services are much more costly than if you make an appointment with a doctor. As soon as you are able, please contact AWA to let us know how you are doing or for further assistance.

When going in for medical treatment you will need to bring your AVI Insurance Card. It is a good practice to have your Insurance Card with you at all times as it is impossible to know when a Medical Emergency may happen. You will also need to have the information required to complete registration, medical history, and insurance claim forms.

When you go to a hospital or doctor’s office you will be required to pay a copayment. Not all services are 100% covered by insurance. You may need to pay part or all of the bill at the time of your visit and submit the claim form for full or partial reimbursement. For expensive tests and treatments, you should call AVI before and find out if and how much they will pay for treatment. Make sure you keep copies of all treatment summaries and receipts. You will need to provide these documents to get reimbursed by AVI Insurance. You are responsible for paying anything that AVI Insurance will not cover.
